Brake system upgrade q's

Those of you who have done the C900 brake upgrade to post 88 brake system:
I'm in the planning stages to do a brake system upgrade from the 87 vented I now have to the larger 88/89 900 caliper/rotor system. I'm going to keep the older brake master cylinder for now cuz I don't want to mess with the vac boost or tubing swap. My reasons for wanting to do the swap is because I'm just not happy with the response of the older brakes. Even after a recent rebuild of these older calipers, plus using SS flex lines, I know they can do better. I've driven in plenty of other cars and trucks with rock solid braking (not even ABS), so I know that kind of stopping assurance exists. With this current brake setup I'm never fully confident I'll be able to stop when I need. I haven't smacked anyone or anything yet, but I have come close.
So here's a few (maybe duh) questions. After the 88 caliper/rotor upgrade, will I be able to use my older Inca style rims? Or am I going to have to use the newer rims? If so, then I'm going to have to upgrade the rear rotors and calipers as well, and if so, does that mean swapping the rear axle/hub assemblies?
Those of you who have done the C900 upgrade - what are your impressions afterwards? Slight improvement, or big noticable difference?
