cryo is theoretically questionable Posted by bryan [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: respectfuly disagree at least on shotpeaning heres why, jak ![]() |
cryo treatment is based on the theory that lower temperatures cause atoms to pack more closely together, not change composition, but pack tightly together. thus, when super cooling something, the material gets harder to some degree, which is very much based on the material it is made out of. the down side of this is also simple physics. the material, no matter what it is made of, becomes more brittle. so you are both right to a degree.
i believe cryo is good for the c900/or any tranny, but it must be accompanied by a reduction in the torque flexing of the trans, otherwise, the teeth will bust up as per usual. sure, they may be harder after cryo, but, the increase in ridgidity will not offest the issue of torque flex, which causes an irregular mesh, then the gear tooth failure. so, i think do the cryo, then, strengthen the shell/reduce torque sheer stress, and cool the oil religiously, accompanies by tuning the car to build power smoothly, per jak's suggestion, and trans strength/life will be greatly enhanced.
defintely, torque flex must be dealt with no matter what is done to facilitate the highest possible trans internal strength.
it's just a thought.
