I have a 1999 Viggen and a 88 900T with some mods (including intrax springs/bilstein shocks)
The Viggen is deceptively fast, perhaps because of the smoothness of the boost. It gets up to speeding ticket ranges with little effort. It's a very quick passing and touring car. As you know, it's comfortable and good looking too. I had the exhaust modified (removed the center muffler) to make it a little less quiet. I couldn't hear when to shift. The viggen is otherwise stock.
My community is getting more and more retirement oriented, and people drive around ten under the limit. Young people drive ten over the limit. I'm among the young people. This time of year I pass people every day going to or coming home from work (15 minute back road drive). I don't need a lot of power to do it. The Viggen is parked and I'm driving my 88 900T. I consider it better handling at low speeds (<50mph), but not as all out fast. I can pass harleys though in street drag races.
There are certain twisty roads where the speed limit is 45, lots of small elevation changes (+-20 feet) compounded with curves and road camber. Lots of trees and ledge close to the road everywhere. (Westport Island ME) Most people drive it at 35-40. I would love to close the road and run it at 70 in the old Saab. The stock Viggen is not setup for this sort of course and would not fare as well as a less powerful car with customized handling. A modded Viggen may be a different story.
I've got about equal experiene with both cars; 80,000+ miles in the 88 900T when I bought it used, and 50,000 miles + flight academy (which accounts for a lot) in the Viggen.
