I hereby challenge someone to come up with an all metal end tank and connection design which routes the piping beside the headlights instead of underneath the car. I did it with my SAAB 9K FMIC into C900 modification using fiberglass and high temp epoxy to make new end tank connections. It's been in place and operational since July of 04 without a problem. And now that I've driven through two hot summers, I can state that it has been a noticable improvement over the stock IC in terms of consistent boost across the extreme temperature driving conditions I experience. I also have a functional AC.

The 9K IC just fits in front of the AC condensor once the platic end tanks have been modified. For the in/outlet routing, all that needed done was some shaving of metal around the headlight housing and brackets, plus some of the radiator shroud. I even kept the bumper stays and eye hooks underneath. The lights on the inside of each headlight (84 and above) also had to go (dremel tool removal of rear plastic pieces). All minor stuff that did not effect the front end integrity, or change the stock appearance in any way. I now have a simple and straight forward routing of the turbo to intercooler to intake air flow.

The trick is the vacuum cleaner attachment shaped inlet and outlet ports which fits between the headlight and radiator housing and bends around to mate up with the IC on both sides. I fabed it using epoxy and fiberglass, but it could just as easily have been metal. Then there's the essential turbo to inlet tubing which has to run just underneath the distributor (on the 16V engine). For that I used a piece of the pre-16V stock turbo outlet pipe, cutting it just after it's initial U shaped bend and rotating it 180 degrees away from it's stock position, then adapting whatever tubing and rubber parts were required from that point forward. In my case it was a combination of parts and pieces from the stock 9K IC plumbing. Shaving some metal off of the distributor heat shield was also necessary to make room for the tubing. All simple stuff. I'm suggesting that similar pipe routing and connections can be made for any FMIC design on the C900.
