Different speedo cable attachments

Finally putting my late 71 back together after paint and interior color change. Upon pulling my gauge assy out of the dash assy find the speedo cable is attached w/ a quarter twist end to two ears vs the fully threaded nut on the used cable I got off ebay. Are there 2 different speedometer attachment types on these Sonett III's with only the way the speedometer cable attaches being different? IE early late. I hope I can change one or the other to solve this simple problem and avoid having to have a cable made. I can't use the original quarter twist ended sheath w/a new cable as it had been cut-thru w/a cutoff wheel and is junk. Both attach the same way to the trans so only the attachment to the speedo is the issue.
