Thanks for the info on the speedometer cable length. That describes the one in my '71 so I guess "just long enough" is the normal length of the OEM cable. The service manual mentioned pushing the "excess" cable through the firewall to facilitate getting to the back side of the gauge when the cluster is removed. It did not mention having to disconnect the end at the transmission to have "excess", but as you stated, that is necessary.
As for the wiring and the bulb values, several people on here have highly recommended getting the electrical systems manual from Jack Ashcraft's site for the details on Sonett wiring. There are diagrams for that in the Sonett shop manual, but they are so small as to be almost useless.
