Back from looking at the two Sonetts Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 11:53:54 In Reply to: I'll be looking at a low mileage '73 tomorrow, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 21 Mar 2013 06:47:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Both cars are owned by a real nice young guy, probably 20-22 years old. He bought both from the same owner last summer. The older guy he bought them from had owned the '73 since new (still had the original title), who had bought the '74 strictly as a parts car for the '73. The '73 has only 51K miles.
Now for the bad news. I think he is trying to finance his entire Community College education from the re-sale of these two cars. He is asking $16K for the '73 and $4500 for the '74. The '74 is a parts car at best.
Based on the photos and description I thought the '73 might qualify as a Condition #2 which has a value of ~$8K from the Hagerty site. After seeing it I would say the car is between a condition #4 and #3 with a market value of $4K to $5K based on Hagerty.
Almost all of the '73 is original. The body and paint appear very good. The interior other than the driver's seat is very good to good. The clutch is toast (or maybe rear seal) although the car was drivable in the Summer. The Free Wheel function has been disabled, the pivoting nylon arm is bolted to the transmission case and the activation lever has been removed from the dash.
Nice kid but he has both cars grossly over-priced. He has had them advertised for months and I was the first person to view them - partially out of curiosity and partly because they are less than 30 minutes from me and I was bored.
He said he will keep them on the Detroit CL for one more week (too many scammers). You can search there to see his photos.
