I just looked in Jack Ashcraft's book, Saab Electrics for Everyone, at the Sonett V4 schematic. (I have a Sonett III, so I do not have firsthand experience with the Sonett 4 wiring, just what I see in the book.)
The wire from the alternator to the charge indicator lamp is labeled "61" (and should be red), but I don't see 61 from the starter. What I see is:
- Battery + terminal to starter is labeled B+
- Same terminal (B+) on starter to alternator is labeled D+ (should be a red wire)
- That same terminal on the starter connects to the ignition switch with a wire labeled 30 (should be red)
- Another wire from the starter to the ignition switch is labeled 50 (should be red)
- So from the starter, one terminal has B+, D+, and 30 and the other terminal has 50 (and starter connection to ground
Looking at the 95, 96 schematic, it is slightly different:
- wire 85 is same as D+ on the V4 diagram, whereas D+ starter terminal on the 95/96 diagram has wired 72 that splits to 72a and 61, where 61 goes to the charge indicator lamp
