Saabers!
First all, I have driven Saabs for 17 years, first commencing with a 79 EMS. Yes..I am a Saabaholic....moving through B, H, 16valves engines ..classic five door 900 Turbos and SPG love affairs. It as after the 87 red convertible..Saab had nothing else that I desired. That 9000 I never liked... new 900 etc... What is there left to do Saab friends? Regress I say!! Here comes the 96!! two strokes for the money!! ring a ding ding you Saab nuts!ha..ha... Lovely! better than sex I say! Now the V4's not as much fun as the pop pops.., yet easier to obtain parts. Well, what is left? ..the 95? Nay..station wagon profile has never grabbed me. Hmm..the sonnett? Mid life crisis? Give it a shot! Alright you Saab nuts...Looking for a sonnet for over a year! found one..1972..bought the damn thing outright..basket fashion!! engine supposedly ran a year ago...Shoved the duckets in the desperate wide eyed man hands..the thing in tow ..on the way home..I'll hide it from the wife..slip it between the 99T and 900T ahead of the 66 two stroke 96.. Like a liitle boy with a toy! you Saab nuts.... Alright! 1:00 in the morning..slip away from the bed.(who needs sex?) Walking in only a pair of briefs, socks and slippers...to the workshop...yes to pull those racing like seats from the 900 hatchback so I can sit in the Sonnet! The seats were apart from the car. (yes a basket case I typed above, but the body in good condition) I pulled the seats from the 900 trunk, and shoved it in, closed the door.. and breathed!! Damn..that door felt light! Try it again! Yeah , that door is very light! Geez!!! this thing is plastic!! the car I mean! I hit the roof ...Geez.....plastic Yes... I knew it was fiberglass, but geez!!! this is a Saab? Man....one can die without any resistence in this thing! As I sat there gazing at the huge "sonnet III logo on the dash, I pondered to myself... I have always bragged about the safety of Saabs, and made excuses for the 96 as the large wheel can snap ribs...but at least the body of the car was metal! As I sat in the Sonnet,I wondered why Saab didn't make the body steel? As I sat in the car, the thought of a collision made me shut my eyes. I turned to the right, rolled down the window, peered and gazed at the 99..turned left and gazed at the black 900Turbo. I spun around and studied the 96...(it looked menancing I wish to add))It seamed I was surrounded by strong tanks!! Here I was naked sitting in this paper car! deathtrap!! Is it only me, or does anyone one else think of safety? The Saab Sonnet is nice, and I will restore it,..yet for major wrestling on the freeway with Hummers and Expeditions, my hands will be wrapped around the steering wheel of one of those tanks.
