I would say the only cheap way to add power to your V4 is to fill up with high octane gas but that is not cheap anymore. Seriously, there are not too many small budget ways to power up the V4. One thing would be to make sure that it is running as good as possible now by doing a tune up and making sure the valves are correctly adjusted, the carb is correctly adjusted and the timing and points set correctly. Beyond that you are going to have to spend some money for a 2-bbl carb setup, a hotter cam, larger valves, and a Pertronix ignition system. By then you have gotten the engine up to having more power than the transmission can handle. If you watch Ebay you might find the carb setup first and least expensive. Beyond that the engine has to come out. Good luck and welcome to V-Saabs.
