...Not so much a vacuum leak as the prior owner must have had an idling problem, so he adjusted the idle set screw to very high. I spun it back down, the throttle moved to its proper position, and now I idle fairly smoothly and slowly. Occassional sputter, but with the new carb the car no longer sounds like a ricer (not sure what that was all about). Now I just need to make the throttle linkage and tack-weld it into place, and downsize the suction take-off so it fits the distributer advance.
Then I get her on the road and shake her out. So far there still is a slight but persistent loss of fluid from the master clutch. I see no fluid anywhere though. I don't get it. I seem to have lost about 5-10CC so far.
Once the suspension shakes out, I will get back to the custom fuel injection system that I have mentioned in past posts.
