I had a similar problem which turned out to be a faulty electronic throttle body. Replacement provided a complete cure, but the parts were not cheap!
My car (also a '93 CSE) did exactly the same thing, TCS light would come on, car went into limp home mode (if you press the accelerator very hard you should get some power, but it feels like it is in cement). At first, a restart usually cured the problem for a time, but after a while even that failed to cure the problem.
Just how your problem relates to brake work I don't know. Coincidence? Anyhow, my advice is to have the electronic throttle checked, it might be the culprit.
