Post Accident Repair Trouble
Posted by 789993 (more from 789993) on Tue, 18 Jul 2000 00:32:31
Advice Wanted:
My 99 9-5 Wagon was hit in the driver door by a guy that ran a red light. I'm
glad to report that the car protected me, as it should have. At the time of
the accident, I was visiting the University of Michigan, and was 350 miles
from home. I had the car towed to the nearest Saab dealer to be repaired.
Estimate to repair was just under $5000. Three weeks later, I was back in
that state, and decided to stop by and see the progress on my car. I found it
sitting out behind the shop with the door open with melting snow all over the
driver's compartment. This was Strike one! Apparently there was a recent
snowstorm and the car had been sitting outside with the door open for three
weeks. Upon my insistence, the dealership covered the open door with plastic.
I picked up the car three weeks later and found the entire repair to be
unsatisfactory. This is Strike two! An additional estimate from a local Saab
dealer to repair the incompetent repair was about $2250. The problems with the
initial repair are too numerous to list. Subsequently, the dealer in Michigan
has offered to either give me $1125 to settle and go away, or he'll come pick
up the car, fix it and return it to me. Neither offer seems reasonable to me,
especially since we haven't detailed what exactly he'll fix. I want him to
pay for the entire repair and I'll have the car fixed locally by a dealer that
knows what they're doing and will do it right the first time. I feel I've
given him 2 chances and he's failed both times. I don't want to give him
another chance to screw up.
Is anyone familiar with this sort of situation that can offer some advice as
to what is appropriate? This accident has already cost me plenty, and I'm
tired of paying due to other's mistakes. Thanks for any comments anyone might
have.
