Had a similar problem with my 85 900 over the summer. It turned out to be the fuel pump, which is an easy fix because its located in the trunk. It would start to run and then just die with no warning once i put it in gear. On restarting it, it would sometimes idle, but if you gave it gas would die: incorrect fuel pressure. Not sure how you check the pressure on these cars, I just went ahead and replaced the pumps after ruling out the other major components as a problem. Hope this helps. Nathan

Simplest answer weak battery. 2nd answer anything that makes the spark weak (sorry not up to speed with electrics of modern saabs).
If the pump is not right then unlikely to move under load (not enough fuel will be getting through). Maybe the system cannot hold the fuel pressure.
When you would expect the car to be difficult to start just double up the battery with say jump leads from another car and see if it makes a difference,
Charles
