I don't know if the 4-cyl will 'drop in,' but I think it a reasonable option
if the dealer can do it and will do it for a reasonable added cost.

The 9-3 option would be a good idea if (1) you like the car and (2) you get
a good trade-in credit for the 900.

IMO, either would be better than a new V-6.

In Australia the 900 V6 now has a pretty bad reputation. Some call it the
'GM Saab'. I don't deny it is pokey, but it isn't a Saab 4 cylinder, and
hence the problems. I am hoping the V6 in the 9-5 is markedly different.

In an ideal world, GM would provide Saab with the cash and let them get on
with what they know best - building incredibly durable and innovative 4
cylinder cars.
