Dear Charles
I just went through similar problem. Read the instructions from your manual thoroughly. I do not have my manual with me, but I believe you need to leave the ignition and radio on for an hour. You either need to enter the code when the dashes appear, or you have to hold down a button or two for a few seconds until it reads 'code'. This process is described in the manual.
