free 96; last try, i suspect
Posted by dischinger (more from dischinger) on Mon, 3 Sep 2001 15:58:59
Folk,
A year ago, i posted that i had a 1973 96 that i bought new and have kept; it is almost certainly one of the last five 96s sold in the U.S. I said that it was free to anyone who wanted to restore it or just needed it for parts (for sentimental reasons, i prefer the former, but that would be up to the new owner). I got an interested party, who for his own reasons never made it here to pick it up. Then i went to the second interested party, who wants photos, structrual info, et c. Here are the facts, if i had time to scan photos and assess the structure, i would have time to do the work myself. I simply don't.
The car has been wrecked, but is mostly intact; the door, fender, and wheel support were replaced. A paint job about five years ago was botched; the shop said they wanted to do it right, but did not. It is the original color:yellow. The interior is there; original seats, but covered. The undercarriage is the biggest challenge; i drove the car in northern West Virginia for five years, and the passenger side floor is rusted out. Rockers look good. The engine ran well last time i drove it (again, 5 y ago); exception is carburetor, which is cracked. Transmission also was pretty good, but the clutch needs to be reworked or replaced.
I will answer a few questions, but as for a whole lot more info, sorry; i work long hours and am busy most weekends. If you want it, come get it before i have to get it crushed (about a month).
