Starter problems
Posted by Richard Klein (more from Richard Klein) on Thu, 4 Oct 2001 17:26:50
I'm borrowing my mom's old '86 900 turbo. When the engine's hot and you
turn the key, the starter solenoid clicks, but the starter won't spin. This
is a spare car, and while this has been a problem for a while, my stepdad
didn't want to deal with it and just hooked up an underhood starter switch.
I knocked the switch loose, so I figure I might as well fix the problem the
right way. If I bridge the yellow wire (to the solenoid) to the red cable
(to the starter) it starts right up. I figure one of those wires isn't
carrying enough amperage to turn the starter when the engine's hot, but is
it the yellow wire that's the problem, or the red cable? And where's the
other end of that yellow wire? I can follow it into a harness, and trace
that harness down the side of the engine block, but then I lose sight of it.

TIA,
-Rich
