The turbo uses different pistons, and most likely different cams. I
don't know if the heads would be the same, but they may not be. Mahle
pistons are quite expensive for the 16v turbo, as I had reason to
find out recently. The total cost for parts and machine work to
rebuild a 16 v saab turbo was ~$3000.
