85 900 with 5 spd [saabnow]

Message from saab900s Subject: 85 900 with 5 spd ================= Hello, I have a perplexing problem with 5th gear. Run down is. When cold goes into 5th ok, with in a mile or two it balks or will not go in. I can get it in by lifting the reverse lock out and moving it slightly more to the right. I have measured the R lockout pin length at bottom of the shift lever, replaced the pin joining the shift lever to the rod coming from the trani, checked the rubber isolator on the shift rod but cant seem to find a culprit. I have tried pausing between shifs up to a few seconds (count of 5 or 6 by 1000's) but once warm no go. And to be cold it must have been still for 5 hours or so. Changed fluid, no abnormal metal in the fluid or on the magnet. Any ideas, though I dont mind lifting the R lockout to find 5th I would much prefer to fix the issue or determine that it is not worth fixing. The not finding is what is driving me nuts.
Thanks
