IMHO
ABS is not for stopping a car! Its to allow the wheels to rotate under hard braking at the same time to allow the driver to steer around whatever it is she/he wants to avoid.
Having said that, on exteamly slippy surfaces (gravel or snow) the laws of physics will still push the car straight if there is enough speed.
