Brakes
Posted by David Mackay (more from David Mackay) on Wed, 6 Oct 1999 19:02:19
Some time ago, I posted a notice indicating that I was not pleased with the performance of the brakes on my 91 9000CD especially when compared to the Volvo brakes.
I received a number of responses, to which, I respond, that yes I change the fluid every 2 years religiously, yes I have (had) good pads on at the time.
>From the day I purchased the car(~4 years ago), the Brake Fluid and ABS lights have stayed on for what I consider an inordinate amount of time (~20 seconds) after the car has been sitting for 15 minutes or more.
Upon checking with the dealer (because I had never had any experience with the electric booster system installed), I was told that this was normal, and I would find that the lights would stay on longer as the pads wore down.
A few weeks ago, I replaced both the front rotors and pads (along with ~~$4000 of repairs when the damn timing chain let go on the highway with NO prior warning).
At the same time, I had the system re-blead. Now I notice that the lights stay on for ~30 seconds. I figured the dealer had fed me a line, but now I am sure.
Any ideas as to what I could be looking for?, and ~$$ to repair.
Any help would be appreciated
