9kT starting 'clunk'
Posted by Joe (more from Joe) on Wed, 10 Nov 1999 01:06:44
Hi Saabernauts,

With the radio either low or off, when I start moving from a dead stop
(or, say, moving forward up a hill with a slight roll backward as the
clutch grabs), I hear a gentle 'clunk' coming from what sounds like the
left front.
It's an '87 9kT w/201k miles.
The noise will be a tad louder if I start a little more aggressively or
missing altogether if I really baby it. I don't hear it when I upshift
to 2nd (5 speed) but it simply could be too loud in the car to hear it.
Further, I think I can make it happen in reverse from a dead stop (or,
again, if I already have it in reverse but I'm drifting downhill and let
the clutch out).
I won't be totally heartbroken if it's a motor/tranny mount. I WILL be
uptight if it's a CV joint.

Thanks,
Joe Krepps
'87 9kT, 201k, original turbo but only one original half-shaft.

Does the standard R & P fit a sonnet or the monte carlo style?
