I think that's because car companies have to have REAL programmers, 
and REAL testing, otherwise they'll get sued bigtime.

NOBODY would sue Bill Gates or Apple just because their computer
froze. but a computer freeze on a car can be a life-threatening event.

And if you think THAT's a high stress programming job, try the folks
who code and test and retest the code that goes into the Space
Shuttle's 5 mission computers...

Of course, I think they might have used consultants on the recent
Mars missions... ;-)
