Suspension

Hi All
I am looking for a spot of advice on suspension. I have a 1990 900 EMS (top of range non turbo 2 dr coupe in Oz) 5spd with 148,000 kms. The shocks are not too bad, but definetly going soft and I want to change them.
I have read the FAQ's on shocks and see a difference in opinion. However, a summary of those opinions may be that Koni, Bilstein and Sachs shocks are all great for handling, not too good for comfort. Also, it would seem the SPG / Aero 900's have different springs and sway bars, and that Saab have offered suspension upgrade kits in the past.
With the above in mind, if I want great handling, tight cornering but not too much of a bone shaking ride, what do I look for? Do I need to upgrade springs and sway bars as well as shocks? How much should I pay? Is it better to get a Saab tech to do the job over a suspension specialist?
Finally, the sway bar bushes on the car are groaning. Apparently it is not doing any harm, but it is very annoying. Makes the car sound neglected! Any recommendations here?
Thanks is advance for your help
