I remember a line in Car and Driver many years ago (late '70s) about how the average gold-chained US Porsche owner would be in psychoanalysis if they saw their cars being built, with the Turkish guest-workers laying on their backs kicking the sunroof frames into alignment with their feet.
If you buy a car, someone else has sat in that seat before you get the car. To the manufacturer and dealership staff, that new car is just another of the several hundred (or several thousand) that go through their hands every year. With very few exceptions (most of them not traded through normal retail channels) cars are product, not precious jewelry.
John.
