Test your solenoid with 12v from the battery. You should hear a satisfying 'click', like a relay. And before dropping $130 on a replacement solenoid, do find a friend to borrow one from so you can be sure. Then go to a junkyard or buy a used one from one of the many parts vendors on the net...
