It sounds like you are mechanically inclined.  I don't remember if you had
a 900 or 9000 but on the classic 900 it's less than a 2 hour job to change
the boot. The kit runs around $16 dollars including boot, clamps and
grease.

The decision would have to be based on how long your boot has been torn
and whether the existing joint is making clicking noises at full steering
lock (which often clears up with a reboot/grease pack anyway).
