Just a small contribution of thoughts on overheating problems.
Boiling over and loosing water from the overflow tank. I am a bit skeptical about SAAB's plastic screw-on tops. I had them replaced on both my old 900s. It should take a long time (a lot of heat) for the water to come out of the cover).
Water can overheat, from all the things that have been mentioned, and also from: o - Old radiator that is clogged up with salts (should not happen is antifreeze is used all the time), old radiator that the copper fins are no longer in tight contact with the water channels (you'll see them dropping off).
o - incorrect ignition timing (too advanced) will generate too much heat.
o - incorrect concentration of anti-freeze. Anti-freeze in the right quanitity aids cooling as it increases the boiling point of the water. No antifreeze (all other harms aside) means the engine wil overheat too easily. Too much antifreeze and cooling is inhibited too. Someone wrote (sorry do not have the msg handy) 50% antifreeze concentration (as a guess that might be necessary for some parts of Canada etc) in the UK I prefer to stick to 33% solution (newer SAABs specify 50%, ehmmm).
o - Leaking cooling system. The easiest way to get a hot engine. If collant is lost through any part of the system (eg. because gases enter the cooling system from a head gasket thus in differest strokes/conditions water will enter in the cylinders) the pressure of the system drops therefore its boiling point is lowered, there is steam in the system and then you get water coming out of the expansion tank.
If all this makes any sense, in answer to the original question .. should I replace the radiator - you loose nothing by taking the radiator out and use some reverse flushing (get a hose and force the water in, in the opposite direction of normal flow). I have done it twice, first time I needed a new radiator 'cause the old one leaked when it was put back on the car. 2nd time I threw the radiator away as soon as I saw its state :-(
I do not use chemical flushes so I can tell you about them.

BTW. If you use any radiator-leak-fix products they increase tempratures substantially.
