Tom,

Hakkapeliitta 10 tires are suitable for year-round use, and will not be 
destroyed by hot dry summer pavement like some of the softer Blizzak tread 
compounds.  Dry handling will not be comparable with all-season or summer 
tires though.

If in doubt, apply the tire pressure recommended in your owner's manual.  
This is safe on any 'recommended' tire size and wheel size.  For your 9000, 
a 185-65-15 tire on 15x5.5 steels or 15x6 alloys is appropriate.  I 
personally add 3 to 5 psi to the recommendation to avoid excessive edge wear 
on hard cornering.

To be sure about a tire's speed capability, find it's 'speed rating', which 
is a code embossed on the sidewall of the tire.  See the 'tire tech' section 
on http://www.tirerack.com for more details.
 These speed ratings apply 

equally to winter and summer tires.

Here's a breakdown on safe top speeds of tires:

Q=99 MPH, 160km/h
S=112 MPH, 180km/h
T=118 MPH, 190km/h
U=124 MPH, 200km/h
H=130 MPH, 210km/h
V=149 MPH, 240km/h
W=168 MPH, 270km/h
Y=186 MPH, 300km/h
Z=149 MPH, 240km/h and over

Oh, I must add that I had our '88 9000Slow up to 120mph on several 
occasions.  Try an 8-valve non-turbo for a better dose of slowness.
