Fair enough, I'll admit that I wasn't willing to cut this guy much slack. I was already unhappy about taking my car in, having to get up early, and the like.
However, putting it in drive doesn't remove the issue. In fact, it crops up relatively frequently. It's just easier to induce when I have control over more variables.
I'm unhappy because
a) the car didn't do this 6 months ago
b) it's a niggling annoyance in what is otherwise an awesome car
It may not be a defect, but if what I'm experiencing is normal, it is a deficiency in the engineering of the car. Being an engineer myself, I look at it and say: they could have done this better. Yes, I'm sure it would have cost more money and more time, and in reality, I didn't buy a $100k uber-luxury sedan, so it's not fair of me to expect absolute perfection.
On the other hand, since the vibration didn't happen 6 months ago, that suggests to me that some bearing somewhere got a little unevenly worn, or some rubber damper lost some flexibility, or perhaps a bunch of things like that, and it might therefore be possible for someone familiar with the engine to replace a likely part or two and make me happy.
I seem to have gone and ranted again.
Andrew
