36 mo was just a few $$ higher than 24. I assume it's because the $1000 total incentives, which is fixed regardless of the lease term, is spread over a shorter period of time, offseting the decrease in residual. I didn't check out the 48 mo lease, but two dealers insisted that the 48 mo wasn't competitive, so I'll take their word.
Other considerations on 36 vs 24 - I will likely have more wear/tear over 36 mo than 24, incl brakes & tires.
I did a 48 mo on the 9-5 I am now returning. Obviously I've done brakes/tires. I would really like to wait & test drive the new 9-5 before making a decision on the 9-3, but I need to extend the lease beyond the warranty period in order to so, and I am hesitant to do that. I have no problem paying for car repairs, I just don't want to pay for repairs on a car I will only own for another 60 days or so! If my lease term was less than 48 mo originally, I would certainly be extending and waiting to see the 9-5. My longer lease term doesn't give me that luxury. That's an advantage to a lease that is shorter than the warranty period. More flexibility in timing the return.
