Was surprised to se your post here! :)
I think that most Saab's can be split into two categories
1) One drives forever...
2) The second falls apart right away...
I've seen a lot more happy customers with the 9-3SS than those with issues. Also out of those who had issues I met only a few that couldn't be fixed. And that's in 3years since 9-3SS was on market and knowing the fact that 2003 was the most succesfull year for Saab with most sales since they brought cars to United States... 9-3SS is still the most popular model for now. I think you are safe with 2006. You'd also be safe enough with earlier years if you can check the service record to see how many problems the car had.
I just purchased a 2003 9-3 Sport Sedan last week. I drive a lot and I'm a beliver. :)
Hope to see you at B&B soon, I wish it would be easier for me and Branko to find that specific car you want :).
