Ingrid:

I am not very happy with my car. My 93 SS is a 2003 ARC. I am thinking that the problems I've had were because of first year of production?

I just recently had to replace front and rear brakes (pads and rotors) after 20K miles... These are not covered under warranty. I have owned saabs before (2001 9-3, 1998,1992,1983 900's), I have never had to replace pads before 30K miles, much less rotors. I guess is the way they make the cars nowadays. I tried to get the dealer to cover part of the cost, and they would not (and I consider my dealer here in GA excellent). I called SAAB Usa, and of course, they gave a bunch of bull. Just take into account the potential cost of breaks after 2 years of so ( I paid $900)...

Also, the service issues. Oil changes are "free". Right... First, there's no scheduled oil changes; the car goes by its computer, and in my case, the first oil change should have been arouund 16K miles (accoriding to the computer) Of course, I did not wait that long, and I had to pay for those oil changes not prompted by car's computer out of my own pocket. Now, this was the case with my 2003. I don't know if they have changed the maintanance thing.

As far a quality, I think the interior of the car is cheap compared to the old 9-3 (too much plastic). The interior styling is nice, again, the materials are cheap. There're also too many rattles overall. The interior cabin is also noisy.

I do like the way the car drives. The handling is much nicer that previous cars. The exterior styling is also nice.

As far as realibility, I have had to do more software upgrades than I realy car for (I think 4, way more than Saab paid oil changes). A couple had to do with the automatic transmition issue that has been very well documented on this board.

After having the car for a little more than 2 years now, If I were in the market for a car, I would consider the new BMW 325 (even being first year production) or the Audi A-4 (heck, even the A-3). I know they are more expensive (5 or 6K more?), but I tell you one thing, at least brakes are part of their standard maintanance.
