The most basic idea of safety design is to make outer zone that eats energy and driver's cabinet that should stay static no matter what hits it.
If your cabinet was ok and outer zone took damage, then mission complished.
Bacause idea is to protect human, not car body.
Saab's airbags wont active if impact force is calculated to be not dangerous.
