I thought I responded in kind because of the last sentence in your first post, but I guess it's easy to get agitated when a loved one is involved in a crash. So I'm sorry if my tone was too harsh.
I will say again though that what happened is completely normal and the amount of damage to non-essential structures is nothing to be worried about. If it had been the Saab hitting the Merc in the same manner, the outcome would have been exactly the same, if not an even more expensive repair for the C240.
The 9-3SS is the safest car in it's class, as proven by both crash testing and real life data. Safety is about protecting the occupants, not the repair bill.
