The Salesman and the Saab Sales Manager both said it can't be done. The parts catalog makes it appear it can be easily done. Ditto with my impression of the trim pieces after examining them carefully on the car I intend to buy and a rail-less SC Aero parked in the lobby at work. The Parts Guy agrees with me after he looked at the parts on the cars and the parts in his catalog, and before he talked to me on the phone.
There is a similar trim piece on the roof rail equipped cars but it seems to be attached more firmly. Possibly the roof rail mounts actually clamp it into the tracks rather than just being snapped into the tracks.
If the Dealership isn't willing to remove the rails, I will accept their offer of a price deduct for the rails and buy the new trim pieces myself.
