I purchased a 2004 Arc with Xenons. At first I thought they were sort of cool, with the self-leveling at start-up and the sharp cuttoff. However, I soon became aware of deficiencies that I believe affect safety. First, on country roads where you are traveling down hill, as you approach the bottom of the hill, the sharp cutoff limits visibility of the road ahead (the upside beyond the valley). Had to brake hard and swerve to avoid deer crossing road ahead that I simply could not see with Xenons. Had same situation with pedestrian traffic driving at night in small town w/o streetlights. I simply could only see shoes and dark pants crossing beyond intersection on other side of intersection at base of hill.
As a result, over several days I adjusted the Xenons upward in gradual increments. After each adjustment I assessed performance from two perspectives -- mine and oncoming traffic. Each upward adjustment improved performance from my perspective, I could see better beyond bottom of steep hill, I could read signs better, etc. After several adjustments I noticed that oncoming drivers were becoming annoyed to the point of flashing their high beams at me. So, I adjusted back a notch, and now I feel I have an OK balance. That said, I would not purchase a car with Xenons again, and personally believe they should be banned because of safety issues.
