There is an upgrade available for the standard suspension; many site sponsors offer it. However, if you're looking to upgrade the suspension you might as well just go for an Aero and get all the goodies. Another option would be to track down a '04 or '05 CPO Aero (similar to the current Aero only it uses the 2.0T motor).
I for one am not a fan of the Aero suspension; it's much better with the new tires I bought but it still crashes over bumps. If the roads are bad in your area, take the Aero for a good long drive over familiar roads. This is one reason why the Anniversary edition appeals to me, it's similar to my '04 Aero but has a softer ride. The roads here are terrible and the Aero suspension just amplifies it.
