Congratulations on your purchase! We have owned our 9-3SC for nearly 8 months now. In response to your questions; you are correct that the failure of the door lock button to work while the door is open is to prevent accidentally locking your keys in the car.
I am trying to visualize the square blanked opening next to the auxiliary power outlet. This must be inside the console storage bin and may be the coin holder(?) I can't imagine any problem if you route your cord thru the opening, but notice the console lid already has strategically placed groovs on all sides to accomodate clearance for cords going to the ports within the storage bin.
Telephone - have fun. Somehow SaabUSA has had the designed-in BlueTooth capability of the 9-3 disabled and no one has yet been able to dsuccessfully reactivate it. Some owners have installed add-on Bluetooth kits, you should be able to search for instructions and wire numbers on how to do this.
Child Seats - sorry, but my youngest is 24 years old! Saab sells some very neat looking infant, child, and toddler seats thru their accessory catalog. The 9-5 used to have optional built-in toddler seats but they were a very expensive option and have since been discontinued.
Bike rack - you can purchase a bike rack from Saab that will fit onto the roof. Do you have the factory mounted roof rails? The bike rack (one model has a gas charged cylinder to assist with the lifting) will fit on either the factory mounted roof rails with cross bars, or the accessory roof cross bars that mount beneath the covered doors. You can add roof rails if you really like them, but they cost more than the cross bars and you will still require special cross bars in addition to the rails to carry any cargo up there. Another option is to purchase the Saab trailer hitch mounted bike rack. I believe this accessory easily swings away to allow ready access to the cargo hatch.
Other Options - I installed Saab mud flaps at all four corners to keep the car cleaner, and removed the factory roof rails since my wife hated their appearance. The additional cup holder for the SmartSlot is reported to be problematic although it looks cool. Hirsch makes a leather dash trim kit, but it cost nearly $800 and has to be ordered from Europe since SaabUSA apparently has no marketing agreement with Hirsch. Saab has numerous pet acessories if you often travel with a large dog. The best advice would be to view the accessory catalog on SaabUSA's website and decide if any of it appeals to you.
