We start to see and read more about this on the Volvo's too from 1999 and up where when they replace the battery the normal old fashioned way, something goes dead.
It can be a bear to wake that module up and many times it includes hooking the car up to Volvo headquarter over internet and download a software package to make the module "talk" to the car again.
Volvo specifically says to let the car sit with key off for 5 min before disconnecting battery cables.
When reconnecting the cables, Volvo says to turn the key to position 2 (ignition on).
This is in stark contrast to old believes where we were taught to never have the ignition on when reconnecting a battery due to the risk of "jolting" the fuel injection computer.
So for the Saab's with dead battery.
The best approch is to either charge up the cars battery with a charger or by using the donor cars alternator to charge your battery through the jumper cables, which can take quite awhile.
Or if the battery is dead, install a fully charged battery.
And also, NEVER EVER CONFUSE the positive and negative cables. This was of minor concern in the old days but with today's fully computerized cars, it will do damage to many components.
