As a fellow pilot, thank you for validating my own thoughts! I've always thought the Night Panel aka Black Panel being marketed as an aircraft-like feature was ridiculous. Although I'm admittedly not a fighter pilot, I can't imagine any scenario flying any type of plane where I would want to have anything less than complete information from all of my instruments in front of me. In fact, as you know for IFR flying you have to do a regular instrument scan and you certainly can't turn instruments off. Monitoring all engine gauges is very important during flight, whether IFR or VFR. Maybe Swedish military planes have (or had) this feature, but I would not want it in any aircraft I fly.
I have about 35 hours of Garmin G1000 glass cockpit flying under my belt now, too and that system presents scores of information, which makes the flying workload easier, not harder!!
