Then presumably GM can only get $30k for it in any case whether I exercise my option or not. If I turn the car into them, they have to bear various expenses then attempt to re-market the car... to get the $30k for it. Their incentive is that I will save them time/money by paying them mkt value now rather than mlt less expenses later.
BTW, if they have this car booked at a $34k residual and its only worth say $30k... they will have to take the $4K hit at some point. The issue from a fincl perspective is whether they have written the residual down to mkt yet. In theory, they should accept the realistic mkt value for the car from me or anyone else. I have leased cars before and its a market/fincl accting issue for GM. I have the RIGHT to buy at $34k but not the obligation. I can walk ... or propose an alternative. Since the est mkt value next year is $30k- then that should be my proposal.
QUESTION : Does anyone know if GM-Saab are accepting mkt value proposals for lease-end buys for verts now? (as are BMW... MB.. Cadillac etc..) or are they sticking to book value fiction?
