Q: Engine-- Is this a GM enigne?
A: I understand the main parts are made by Holden. I think the Turbo parts are engineered by Saab. It's that award-winning, designed to be turbocharged, V-6.
Q: XWD-- Thoughts on the longevity and/or reliability of this system? Did any of the technology come from GM's previous relationship with Subaru or is it completely SAAB homegrown?
A: It's Haldex. Last year it was touted as the most advanced AWD because it's computer controlled to anticipate and avoid wheelspin, not to sense it, process data and react, which is slower. In a year on my Turbo-X, I find it fantastic. You can burn rubber, but never squeal the tires (audibly). With snows, it is unstoppable in the winter.
Q: SAAB-- Is it a bad time to get into one of these cars given that the future of SAAB is not really set in stone? I understand that it's for sale and dealerships are not really sure if they'll continue to be dealers in the near future.
A: I have the Turbo-X from last year and am happy I don't have to answer that question. I have it and/or am stuck with it. GM's president sent an email promising they would honor all warranties. I've seen people post that as a condition for government financing warranties must be honored. Because both were published electronically, they may literally be "worth the paper they were printed on". I hope it works out better. I've been buying and driving out-of-warranty Saabs continuously since 1985 (hopefully not including the Turbo-X) and the independent mechanic network is pretty good, depending on where you live.
