The ECU receives speed info from the wheel speed sensors (one reading from each front wheel, and one 'reference' reading averaged for both rear wheels).
It also receives speed info from the transmission output speed sensor.
All the values have to match for normal operation, and then the TCM / ESP modules take over when they don't match (when one wheel is spinning, or ABS active, ESP kicks in with yaw correction, etc.)
I hadn't followed your other diagnostic threads, how did you diagnose one speed sensor at the wheels wasn't working?
Have you been to the 'SaabTech' shop in the downtown area? I have heard good things about them - you need to find a Saab specialty shop. I know there's another one in Skokie that's supposed to be decent as well, I can't remember the name of it off hand though.
What other info do you have about the problem? On a car with such sophisticated electronic diagnostics I would hold off on buying parts to try swapping in to fix the problem as long as possible - they're too expensive, and I have been bitten several times jumping to conclusions about diagnosis already, and I'm sure it will keep happening. We're learning more and more about how the SS's act up on a daily basis, I'm sure the other techs will chime in with a similar oppinion.
As long as the system hasn't failed completely, you can usually get a very specific direction to go in from the DTC's listed in the car - get the codes read somewhere that can see all the body and chassis codes, and start from there.
Best,
Drew
