Yeah, I have the same problem with the Volvo's. 24mm will probably do it since my are a tad too far apart.
As you say about the thread pitch, that's where it gets tricky and it's hard to explain how it works with my tools.
The center bolt with adapter that turns the piston clock wise I only need to turn it a fraction to "release" the piston and then I need to turn the other sleeve that apply pressure 1/2 turn or so counter clock wise to push the piston in until I need to "tickle" the center bolt and piston again to release the lock.
So during the whole process of pressing the piston in, I might turn the piston 1/4 to 1/2 turn clock wise at the most while at the same time having turned the other wrench 3-4 turns counter clock wise pressing the piston in.
