IMHO, In your test drives something to look for is 25-27 mph acceleration and seat comfort. These two things aren't given enough stress is magazine road tests. The 25-75 mph sprint is most like a short freeway on ramp, therefore, a real world use of power. How many times from a dead stop do you slam your car up to 60mph? They mags ove 0-60 mph...OK, how many times do you get the rush of flooring it on a freeway on ramp? The 25-75 mph test is very inportant where I live, in places short on-ramps and a freeway that averages over 75mph.
As far as comfort for long trips go--seats will make or break your car. Memory settings for differnt positions will be a feature 2 drivers will both appreciate.
I think both cars are good choices. The Acura is the same as the European model for the Accord and has good handeling. The SAAB will do well in the above criteria and I would think the materials used in it would match the Acura. Acura probably has better short-term resale value because its more popular. But when you look at how many truely old 8+ years old cars there are on the road SAAB has the highest percetange of cars still in use--people love them for their unique charature.
