I currently drive a 2000 Mustang GT coupe. It's been a great car, in fact this is my second Mustang GT, the other being a 1988 model. However, I have had it with the lousy service I have received at three different Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealerships, I will never buy a Ford product again. I got a coupon in the mail for a transmission fluid exchange for $79.99. I went down to one dealer where they have a quick lube shop and I asked them about also replacing the fuel filter. The manager said she'd quote me a price and the service could be done in about 45 minutes. Two hours later, they had changed my oil (which I also needed) but never got the quote on the other services, so I didn't get them done. I went to another dealer last weekend to get the transmission serviced. This was at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership and they always give you a complimentary car wash when you get your oil changed. There was only one other customer ahead of me, but it took a really long time. The manager said I could pay for it now to speed up the process. I did and waited longer. I hadn't had anything for breakfast and it was quickly approaching 2PM so I left to get some lunch. When I came back, my car was parked out front because it was supposedly done, but they didn't wash it, the mechanic left dirty handprints on the steering wheel and inside door handle, and they didn't do the transmission service, because they said they didn't have the parts to do it. So I wasted three and half hours of my weekend for nothing. They charged my card back and gave me two free oil change coupons, but it took five days for the bank to show that the credit went through.
About six months ago, I had to take my car in for service to replace the air compressor under warranty because it was making noise. When I got the car back, they had sprayed some kind of chemical through the ventilation system and left an oily mess all over the dashboard, seats, and center console. I went to bitch about this to the shop manager and he told me that the car was like that when I brought it in. BS! I argued some more and they said they'd clean it for me, but I'd have to leave it for another day, and they already had my car for two days already. I cleaned it myself.
Ever since I had the car, there's been a problem where the car would accelerate briefly when I put it in gear, which means I have to always keep my foot on the brake for several seconds to make sure the car doesn't jump forward/backward and hit something. This is an intermittent problem, but I need to take precautions every time I drive it so I don't run into another parked car or a pedestrian. I took it into the dealer twice and they weren't able to figure out what the problem was. They had my car for two days and the only explanation they shop manager could give me was that I was using a K&N air filter and said that I shouldn't be using them as Ford does not recommend them. I told him that was crap because they sell them in their parts department. He told me I needed to buy a standard paper filter or I couldn't have my car back. I told him I had one at home and he said unless I was willing to go get it, I'd have to pay $15.00 for one here. My home is a long drive away. This was two years ago, and I still have the problem. I have learned to live with it since apparently nobody is capable of correctly diagnosing the problem.
Ford doesn't give a damn about their customers and do sloppy, shoddy work. I was getting excited about the 2005 Mustang but there's no way I'll give them any more of my money.
As soon as I buy my house in a few months, I'll get serious about getting a 9-3 Arc sedan. I've been in love with this car for a long time now and I hope that my experience will be significantly better. The Saab dealer I went to is also a Cadillac/Hummer dealer and it's totally first class. They have catering every day and I had a complimentary lunch when I had my test drive. I do find myself needing a bigger back seat and trunk on occasion, and now that I'm making good money, I want to get myself a nicer car. Of all the cars I've driven, the Saab is the only one that really interests me. The only question is whether I should wait and try to get a used 2004 model and not worry about the depreciation. I have been looking and I don't see too many used ones, but they're all 2003 models and I am a little reluctant to get the first model year due to all the problems I've been hearing about that seem to have been rectified for 2004. Any suggestions?
