I agree. Had they just explained it the way it is/was--"Your pulley has 55k miles on it and we have a history of these things going. You really should have it (and the belt) changed. If it does go on you you're looking at a very expensive repair bill. Since this is preventative maintenance, it is not covered under warranty. However, should you decide to try and make it last, and it fails on you, there is a serious risk to your engine."
Had they explained it to me that way I would have no problem. Adding this to the other things I've had an issue with in the past there puts me over the top. The other issues I've had never directly cost me money but just time (which, in the long run, means money for me as I'm in sales). Heck, even if they apologized for their mistake I'd be happier. It's not even the money at this point, they're just acting like they did nothing wrong. That's what annoys me.
I understand the service department at many car dealerships get bonus money if their customer satisfaction is at a certain level. They base this on those surveys we all get. So I know they can't be happy about an unhappy customer but they just don't seem to care...
