'04's service interval - factory claims vs. fact

Intrigued by the promised 15,000 mi service (oil change) interval on the new 04 Arc (my first Saab) when I picked it up in December of '03, I called the national customer service number and the lady there assured me that the engine had been improved and that with full syn and a special oil filter 15K was it. I've since found out that the spin-on oil filter is the same as previous years. Based on chatter on this forum about oil changes and sludging problems a year ago, I decided to stick an extra change in at 7,500 intervals. So what happens after the first oil change at 7,500 done at the dealer? - at 10,200 miles the oil change light comes on. That means a free oil change so I took it in and they did it again and they filled out the 15,000 mi entry in the logbook. For various reasons, I now expect to do changes at 5000 intervals in anticipation of the oil change light coming on again at around 20,000. Wonder if I'll get a third free service at 30,000 and just what exactly is going on? Programming error on the system, maybe this unit doesn't really have the "improved" engine? Hardly did any hard driving to cause the interval to advance 33%. Any of you '04 owners experience the same thing? What do you make of it?
TIA
Ells
